Whoever made up the belief has obviously been tempted my the devil to create some sort of system where you will get saved, sin all you want, but still go to heaven... very sad indeed...Who invented the false doctrine of ';once saved always saved';?
You and the answer you chose both suffer from the same flaw of belief. If a person actually acts like the answer indicates, it would be a strong indication that they were never saved. You cannot lose your salvation, but you can mistakenly believe that you have something you don't.

Only in that Predestination insists that if God decided that you'd go to Heaven, you WILL go to Heaven, and if he decided you'd go to Hell, you WILL go to Hell, no matter what. Once saved always saved just means that if you once were part of the religion/saved, you'll go to Heaven no matter what.
No idea who invented it.
Both of them are ridiculous in my opinion.
similar in that you can feel secure. Different in that you need to make the choice, and it isn't set beforehand. The 'catholics' knew that if the pope said you were in you were set, and the early 'protestants' wanted the same security, so they wrested scripture into the 'once saved always saved' doctrine.
I would argue that the doctrine is not false, and I will explain why in a moment.
It is actually one of the points of Calvinism (keep in mind that these 5 points were made up AFTER Calvin died) known as ';Perseverance of the Saints';
Essentially what this doctrine says is, if God has truly called man to himself, and if man is truly too depraved to go to God on his own, then there is no way for a man to lose his salvation. If someone lives as what is known as a ';cardinal Christian'; then chances are they were never saved, and were play acting their salvation.
Now here is why I don't believe this doctrine to be false:
Romans 11:29 For the gifts and the calling of God [are] irrevocable.
Hebrews 3:14: For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,
Ephesians 4:30: Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
2 Timothy 2:13: If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.
Ephesians 1:13-14 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
In two of the above verses Paul mentions how we were ';Sealed'; this uses the same language that one would use to describe an official scroll being sealed with hot wax, which would only allow the recipient to open it.
I am aware of some scriptures that would at first glance dispute this, however, we know scripture if it is authored by God cannot disagree with scripture. Typically these verses refer to what are called ';apostates';
Apostates are those who would claim Christianity but are not regenerate, and claim Christianity for their own purposes, to please their parents at a young age, or to profit off of those who are hurting (think Benny Hinn)
I actually think it has directly to do with Calvin's predestination doctrine, I believe he was going off of Martin Luther, but even Luther did not believe-completely- in such things.
But I think there are different types, Calvin believed that if you were chosen by God, you were chosen by God w/ no choice in the matter, While some baptists think that once you choose God its all good to go from then on.
First, it must be acceded that as much as God used John Calvin or James Arminius to clarify biblical doctrine to His glory, these were infallible men like Me or any other. It is somewhat non-productive to label someone a ';Calvinist'; or ';Arminist'; since both theological frameworks cover different specific doctrine and both have a large degree of latitude within them. Basically, Calvinism emphasizes the sovereignty of God, while Arminianism emphasizes the free will of men. Both biblically derived concepts are true, and yet there is a logical tension between the two biblical truths.
This is an area where humility is called for as good men of God have defended both biblical truths for centuries. I don't plan to solve the problem here, because I fully accede that both doctrines, if taken to completion using logic, appear to contradict each other at various places. This is where the problem lies. Logic does not put forth, create or originate truth, the scriptures do. Logic is merely the means God gave us to sort our error. I believe wise men will merely accede that the scripture clearly teaches both doctrines, and leave it at that. It is foolish to defend God's sovereignty or men's free will at the expense of the other.
First of all, slogans like ';Once Saved, Always Saved'; are always regrettable because they polarize an issue, causing them to be touted or denounced vehemently not on the basis of truth as truth is, but only as it is represented in the stark world of sloganeering.
Take for instance, the present slogan鈥擮nce Saved, Always Saved. This is based upon the doctrine of the perseverance of the saints, but skews the doctrine by only representing a portion of its teaching. In fact, the slogan doesn't give us enough information to properly judge its merits. As well, the slogan is tautological in its simplicity, so that in being inherently true on its face, it is unable to say anything of value. One might as well say, ';Once one has eternal life, he shall always have eternal life.'; This is obvious by the very definition of eternal life; and so, the slogan teaches us nothing of value. It is likely that this slogan (like most slogans) was created for a very particular purpose, but has long since (again, like most slogans) outgrown that purpose.
Instead, let's look at the doctrine to which the slogan makes reference.
When we speak of the perseverance of the saints, we are, in the first place, speaking not of any power within the grasp or intention of men who believe but rather of the strength of God's own redemptive and recreative work. Because men are saved by grace and not works, the sinful works of men are no great obstacle if God wishes to recreate a man into the image of his Son. The effect of Christ's blood in redemption is complete. So powerful is the blood of Christ that all sins of those that God ordains it to cover are washed in their entirety. As well, when God deems to recreate a man in the image of Christ, he begins the creative work and is faithful to complete it in his time despite the work's potential inclinations to the opposite.
When we speak of perseverance, we are really speaking of God's faithfulness rather than man's. As well, we are not speaking of any statement or decision a man could make. Part of the flaw in the slogan's respect is the preponderance of the contemporary understanding of being ';saved.'; While salvation is a very biblical notion and Scripture does point out that man must be saved, believers too often view this as an effect of a profession of faith rather than the result of God's work of grace. The distinction is palpable. Obviously, anyone can make a profession of faith and live for a time with external evidence of the work of redemption in their lives and yet still be without the work of grace. Though, we might refer to them in our ignorance as the saved, they are anything but. Their profession and life are counterfeits of the life of the honestly saved. The doctrine of the perseverance of the saints declares that those who are of this kind were never recipients of the persevering work of God's grace, were not sealed by the Holy Spirit, and did not receive at anytime the cleansing, redemptive, and recreative work of Christ.
The doctrine of the perseverance of the saints maintains that those who overcome the world鈥攖hose who abide in Christ鈥攗ntil they die and are taken up to heaven are the saved. They are the ones who persevere. Any who do not persevere simply were not saved for they did not experience the saving grace of God, were not conformed to the image of Christ, and were not forgiven of their sins. Therefore, it stands to reason that they as well never possessed eternal life鈥攆or eternal life is eternal.
The plain fact is that Scripture encourages believers to work in righteousness as they reflect the glory of their Lord. And Scripture offers security for those who have this work of grace alive in them. Those who claim belief but do not live righteously are persuaded to fear for their place and are invited to pursue God with all their hearts, minds, and souls that they might rest in the security of God's grace.
In light of 1 John 1:9's admonition to confess sin for faithful and just forgiveness, the question is often asked whether a true believer, unconfessed, might not be in danger of perdition. Yet, while confession of sin before God is integral to the obedient Christian life and no true Christian will go for too long in aggressive rebellion against the confession of sin, believers are always going some duration without confessing their sin. Even if it is only the time period between the sin and one's immediate regret for and confession of that sin, there is still a period of unconfessed sin. We do not believe that this unconfessed sin can keep the true child of God from receiving that which God has claimed is his inheritance and has sealed in him with the Holy Spirit. We do believe that unconfessed sin will forge a breach in one's earthly experience of the joys of heavenly life, but not that unconfessed sin can mar the surpassing grace of God. If this were so then every believer would be in danger of perdition at the time of his death for even as...
Once saved always saved is a false doctrine that is believed by the most stupid fundies based on their twisted interpretation of the Bible. Not all fundamentalists believe in OSAS...only the most stupid, KJV-only, Kool-Aid drinking fundie cultists do. Stay away from the radical cultist fundies. They are not true Christians...they are agents of Satan.
The false 'doctrine' would be the exact OPPOSITE!! (Once you are Born Again Spiritually, He will NEVER leave you, or 'you' are just a miserable soul 'thinking' you are always going to be punished over and over again and drag Him up on the cross everytime you 'think' you fall away from Him!!
What else does ';saved'; mean - if not safe?
Why else would it be called ';Good News'; if by stealing a cookie from the cookie jar just once for the rest of your life you would be damned again?
Why then would Paul say that ';today is the day of salvation, now is the accepted time';?
If you're not safe you're not saved. That's what the word implies and please not that in the OT it's not used to describe salvation but in the NT it is.
If you don't believe that Jesus Christ paid for your sin - your past sin, present sin and future sin, how could He pay for them on the cross over 1900 years ago? Doesn't He know the future didn't He know your past sins in the future back then and paid for them back then? Then why couldn't he pay for your future sins back then as well?
Is anything too hard for God.
Calvinism is a backasswards way of understanding this nature and power of God.
Sounds like you got some homework.
Augustine of Hippo, i.e. Augustinianism.
I will not post differences or/and similarities, as, well... It's pretty much all on Wikipedia :) and I'm not the type that loves to copy to get the best answer :P
Even Catholics believe in OSAS. You can Google ';Nine First Fridays Devotion'; or ';Five First Saturdays Devotion'; for more information.
God bless!
Dave
OSAS is a false doctrine. The fundies who preach that unbiblical doctrine are agents of Satan (Note: not all fundies believe in OSAS only the nutcase cultist varieties).
What is false about it? Who can take a person away from the Lord?
I have no idea, never heard of it til I came here to R%26amp;S...God Bless and Happy Sabbath
As a born again believer you are sealed through the Holy Spirit.
People who are too lazy to care to repent and too lazy to live their life improving when they make mistakes.
once saved always saved is correct.if you go on sining after that ,you only loose fellowship with God.
Somebody you disagree with, obviously.
And do your OWN homework.
Satan is behind it, look how many souls he has taken by that belief.
The Baptized. This is so untrue
